To close out the year with a bang, we're calling home our youth poets while inviting participants from the Bay Educators for Youth Voice program to share the stage with featured poet Jada Imani and special guest emcee Michelle 'Mush' Lee, our new Executive Director.

In ONE HOUR!!! Join us! Today, Youth Speaks is hosting the world-famous Under 21 Open Mic (U21OM) and Teen Poetry Slam at 4:30 pm pst on a new platform called OhYay. We'll also be joined by multi-talented artist Jireh Deng as our featured performer. 

Jireh (she/they) is a writer born and raised in the 626. An interdisciplinary artist, her passions lie at the intersection of her passion for poetry, research, and community. You might also. recognize Jireh's name from her work with the Asian American Writer’s Workshop, the podcast “VS”,  and her feature in the Youth Speaks anthology “Between my Body and the Air”.

Today, we kick off the 21-22 season of the Youth Speaks Under 21 Open Mic (U21OM) and Teen Poetry Slam at 4:30 pm pst on a new platform called OhYay. To start us off right, we've partnered with the folks at Black Forum to curate a very special open mic for poets and attendees. Black Forum is Motown’s iconic spoken-word label that was created by Berry Gordy in 1970 “fighting against bigotry and oppression". Starts in one hour!
