My red flag is that I feel like I could, but I know that I couldn’t. I don’t think people realise that the snow quickly crystallises around you after you’re buried, so it’s closer to trying to dig out of ice than it is digging out of snow and THAT is why it’s difficult. Not to mention the lack of leverage you have or where you’re digging the snow/ice to. You don’t have anywhere to throw it to. Like trying to dig a hole by pouring the dirt back into it. Edit: people in the comments also pointed out that you’re likely to be blinded, very disorientated (not even knowing where up is) and with a lot of pressure pushing on you. Just a few more reasons it would be more difficult than you think.

As a genocidal necrodermis robot from outer space, I could just melt the ice with my thermonuclear reactor.

I dug myself out of a relationship with my ex. I can do anything.

Depends... One could be lucky, but usually no.

Not unless it's a five-pound ice cream sundae called "The Avalanche."

To everybody who said yes, you’re forgetting how heavy snow is, and how it gets in every crevice just like sand. It will cement you in place, zero movement.

I used to imagine snow as light as feather, until you realize 1000kg of feather is still 1000kg

Not only can I, I have had the misfortune of having to do so. I'm exceptionally lucky because you really shouldn't be able to do it.

Ex-serviceman here. On snowy FTXs they taught us how to dig ourselves out if we had use of our extremities, but we also carried tools to help us. They also taught us how to "ride the avalanche", which is a fancy term of saying "keep your feet in the direction of the avalanche to break impacts with your legs instead of your noggin". Sadly I know of 1 instance where the CO was lazy that he didn't verified the route, which resulted in the death of 7 trainees due to a hidden crevice in the snow. PS: The CO was stripped of his epaulettes in front of his troop and family members of the deceased which, in our military, is the ultimate "dishonorable discharge" one can get. And by "stripped" I mean a general grabbed them and just ripped them off.

An avalanche of good wishes, yes; an avalanche of snow, no.

What kind of avalanche are we talking about here? Honestly, the word "avalanche" sounds rather terrifying to handle, I personally have no idea
