Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

🔥 Great news! Doctor Who Warriors' Gate writer Stephen Gallagher will pop into my private community The Time Lord's Retreat tomorrow for an hour-long Zoom chat with me and my members.

We've just revisited the 1981 serial as a group, and so it's going to be excellent to quiz the great master with the story fresh in our heads.

Much like a live convention event, I'll interview Stephen for 40 minutes or so, before members join in for a Q&A.

Want to join us for this very special get-together? You're welcome to, provided you don't get ludicrously angry about Doctor Who or happen to be a bigot.

Membership of The Time Lord's Retreat is priced at $9 per month.

You can leave at any time and if you don't love your first 14 days in the community, you can DM me for a full refund!

You literally have nothing to lose.

I'm confident that you'll come for Stephen and stay for the lovely community.

Want a link to the Retreat, so you can join us tomorrow? Comment the word ME.

Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

Remember a poll I ran here last November, to gauge interest in a Doctor Who trance video? Well, I finally published that video yesterday. It's a hard video to convey in a thumbnail, so some of you (actually, judging by the views so far, most of you 😃) may have missed it. Let me know how you like it, or otherwise. :)

Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

I am cracking this bad boy open to revisit the opening episode of Warriors' Gate, Stephen Gallagher's famously mad Doctor Who tale. Why? Because we're having a weekly group watchalong in my private online Doctor Who community The Time Lord's Retreat!

We're watching one episode per week individually, then coming together as a group to discuss online. Starting tomorrow. I wonder if we'll make head or tail of it! 😂 What are your thoughts on this story? Oh and if you'd like a link to check out my community to see if it's a good fit for you, then comment the words GUNDAN ROBOT 🤖😄👊

Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

I'm a Doctor Who author, long-time Doctor Who Magazine journalist and a life-long Doctor Who fan. What aspect of Who would you most like to see me make a video about for this channel?

P.S. I recently tweaked the final word of the channel's title. Yeah, I'm going all-in. 👊

Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

New members are currently NOT being admitted to The Time Lord's Retreat, my recently-opened paid community for happy Doctor Who fans who want to hang out and geek out without being trolled. After reaching 20 members, I've closed the doors for a while, to allow the group to stabilise. Let me know in a comment if you'd like to join my private waiting list in the meantime, so as to get notified when we re-open the TARDIS doors!

The community is already ranking in the Top 650 on the Skool platform. Not bad going for a two-week-old community with 20 members, and which no-one can currently join!

For context, Skool has way over 10,000 communities, so the enthusiasm of members has already driven the group into the top 10%!

Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

Secret new Doctor Who community update! Just four slots (update edit: ONE) remain open in my experimental new online home for happy Doctor Who fans who want to hang out and geek out in a private space without getting trolled by permanently angry folk and bigots.

When we reach 20 members, I'll close the community doors for a bit, to stabilise and settle the place.

Membership costs just $9 per month. If this feels like something you need to be a part of, just ask for the link below so you can take a look. 👊

What you're seeing in the attached image is a screenshot from the community when seen via mobile app.

The platform is the wonderful Skool, which I fully expect to - whisper it - become the new Facebook over the next few years.

Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

Okay, so I'm actually building this community for happy Doctor Who fans that I quacked about in yesterday's new video. I'm populating it with some good people, behind the scenes. Exciting! But what is the strongest title for this bold new private group? Vote! And if you don't like any of 'em, suggest something else. Also feel free to ask any questions you may have about this community. 😊👊

Jason Arnopp's Terrifying House Of Who

Okay, I want to run something by you. Certainly on YouTube and across most of social media, lots of horribly toxic people have turned Who-bashing into a cottage industry for themselves. This has created a really grim online environment in which to try and be happy Whovian. So I have a question for you...

Would you pay to be part of a new private online Doctor Who community on an awesome platform, far away from the hateful hubbub of Facebook, Twitter (I will never call it X) and all the rest?

In this utopian place, members would respect each others' views, even if they didn't share them. No-one would rant about woke culture and, by the same token, no-one would rant about things being problematic every 10 seconds.

Basically, ranting and arguing would be forbidden.

Ranting and arguing aren't fun.

Ranting and arguing are SO unrelaxing.

This place would NOT be for anyone who, on balance, feels more angry about Doctor Who than they do happy.

The Time Lord's Retreat (title tbc - as is the draft artwork here!), whose details are currently unfurling in my head like the Mara, would be a place for happy Who fans to:
❤ make a cup of tea and chat about the awesomeness and loveliness of all of Doctor Who in an exclusive enclave, via desktop or app on the platform Skool (which is brilliant - ask me for a link if you'd like to take a look around)
❤ get together on group Zoom calls
❤ hear some of my Doctor Who Magazine audio interview recordings
❤ learn about entertainment journalism if that helps you
❤ vote in polls ("Which WAS the finest Tom Baker season? Have at it!")
❤ have their say in the kind of Who videos I make for this YouTube channel, then see them first

Membership would be priced at around $9 per month.

Why a paid community, you ask? Three main reasons. Actually, four:
✅ A paywall would help keep the trolls and toxic tools out. I think that's worth 30 cents a day in itself.
✅ A paywall would keep the number of members under control. Quality not quantity. Some FB groups have 25K members! Not so intimate.
✅ A paywall would pay for prizes for members. Could also pay for guests to visit us.
✅ I am the father of twins, who weirdly never stop being hungry. Also, their feet keep growing. 🤔

I can't be much more transparent than that. 😆 Anyway, hit Like if you like the idea (getting 50+ likes on this post will send me a positive message) and share your thoughts in a comment.

If I were to do this, I probably would have an initial intake of 100 members, then close the TARDIS doors for a bit. Would you want to be one of those history-making founders? Let me know.

Oh and tell me what ELSE you'd love to see in a community like this. What would make joining The Time Lord's Retreat a no-brainer for you?

Jesus, this is a long post. :)
